Aleksi Barrière is the artistic director of the French music-theatre company La Chambre aux échos. With them he has directed a number of opera and music theatre productions as well as staged concerts including the world premiere of the chamber version of Kaija Saariaho’s La Passion de Simone. Opening in Bratislava, the production has since toured to New York, Paris, Copenhagen, Helsinki and the Bergen International Festival.
For Radio France’s Festival Présences he worte libretto for and staged Juha Koskinen’s new opera Ophelia/Tiefsee based on Heiner Müller’s Hamlet Machine in 2017. He also directed semi-staged performances of Alban Berg’s Wozzeck at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen. In 2018 his engagements include a devised play for Trap Door Theatre in Chicago and a world premiere with three young composers at the Staatsoper Hamburg.
After philosophy studies at Sorbonne and a stage director degree from the Theatre Faculty of Prague, he worked as an assistant director to Peter Sellars.
